Germany invades Norway and orders a doubling of production at the heavy water (heavy hydrogen) plant in Rjukan. Norwegian professor Leif Tronstad escapes to England to warn the Allies about what he believes is an effort to build a German atomic bomb. Meanwhile in Germany, Nobel Prize-winning physicist Werner Heisenberg works at breakneck speed to develop a nuclear weapon for the Nazis. The Allies send a team of Norwegian saboteurs to disrupt the facilities at Rjukan, but they are only partially successful. A race against the clock begins.
