Feature film THE INVISIBLE WOMAN charts the secret love affair between Charles Dickens and Nelly Ternan, which lasted for thirteen years until his death in 1870, and which had an important impact on his writing, not least because of Nelly’s insightful comments on his manuscripts. Charles and Nelly first meet in 1857 after the author sees her in a West End play. He then casts her in a performance of a play by his friend the seminal author Wilkie Collins. Charles and Nelly’s family start to get to know each other, though Nelly’s mother is wary of her daughter becoming enraptured with an older married man. Charles feels he has no choice but to publicly announce a separation from his wife, as he and Nelly try to navigate a complex relationship.
